LYE, pH, & Acid Rain: Lye, NaOH,  feels slippery to the fingers.  It is one of the strongest acids known to man.

LYE, pH, & Acid Rain: Lye is what settlers would make by leaching water through ashes.  They would then combine this with fat to make soap.

LYE, pH, & Acid Rain: If you combine sulfuric acid and lye exactly right, it will make table salt.

THE pH SCALE: The pH Scale is can be used to measure the strength of an acid or a base.

THE pH SCALE: On the pH Scale, 14 is a strong acid and 7 is a strong base.

THE DISSOLVER–ACID RAIN: Acid rain is caused by pollutants, specifically sulfur dioxide and nitric oxide.
