DOLPHINS:  There is an Amazon River dolphin. Because it is a salt water dolphin, it can only stay up river in the Amazon for 3 days at a time.  Then it must return to the sea.

DOLPHINS:  The melon is a “bag” of oils toward the back of the dolphin’s body which aims its sonar sound.

DOLPHINS:  The dolphin widens its sonar beam when it is trying to sense things further away.  This causes great amounts of reflected sound to come back to it making the hunt far easier.

DOLPHINS:  When dolphins jump, they can launch their 500+ pound muscle mass 28 feet high!  Amazing. 

DOLPHINS:  In complete darkness, dolphins can detect a pingpong ball that’s a whole football field away, using only their sonar! 

DOLPHINS:  At 18 feet, dolphins can tell the difference between two balls that differ in width by less than the thickness of a heaping plate of spaghetti with a cherry on top!  

DOLPHINS:  The sonar blast that leaves the middle of the dolphin’s head are as loud as a shotgun being fired 6” from your ear.

DOLPHINS:  This huge ultrasonic blast can leave their head at 6000 pulses a second.  These pulses are focused, aimed and constantly adjusted.

DOLPHINS:  Dolphins have a multi-layered football-shaped wonder-bag of different oils called the melon in their forehead.  It’s surrounded by amazing bone and cartilage structures and eight airbags.

DOLPHINS:  Dolphins have nine times the nerve wiring in their faces as we have, but none of it is for facial expressions.  All of it is used to control muscles that aim, fine-tune and focus the water blasts leaving the squirt gun apparatus in their mouths.
